Is Your Bed A little Boring? Nothing A Shabby Chic Headboard Can’t Fix!
Pinterest is on fire with repurposed everything, and I absolutely love it!
Repurposing old doors, pallets, etc into furniture is a wonderful and very economical way to achieve a shabby chic feel in your decor. And a bed headboard is a beautiful and fairly simple place to start.
Currently, our bed has no headboard. (Enter: Great frustration with pillows creeping down behind the bed all. the. time.)
So I’m just itching to try one of these incredible ideas! Here are my Top 5 Favorite ideas for a repurposed, shabby chic headboard:
1. The Door to Sleep-Heaven:
Using an old door seems like one of the easiest ways to re-purpose something into a shabby chic headboard. And charming old rustic doors are a dime a dozen at antique malls and flea markets. You might even have one laying around! Slap a coat of paint on that baby, and BAM! You’ve got shabby chic beauty for your dreaming pleasure.
2. Cozy Up By the Fire:
Fireplace mantles are also an easy already-the-right-size find for a shabby chic headboard. They may be slightly harder to come by, but when I have seen them, they’ve been completely gorgeous! In my opinion, the more ornate, the better. Then, you can refinish the wood for a more rustic masculine shabby chic feel, or just paint the whole thing a nice white shade. Simple and scrumptious!
3. Pallets, Pallets, Pallets:
Personally, I have a suspicion that the pallet obsession is going to die one of these days. It came outta nowhere, swept the nation with Pallet Fever, and I predict it will return to warehouse slumber in the very near future.
However, I have come across a couple of repurposed pallet headboards that are lovely. And I believe their beauty can withstand the impending death of this fad.
The assembly of some of these may be a little more involved, but the materials are cheap, and the end result is worth it.
4. Get A Little Shut[ter]- Eye:
Being originally an outdoor enhancement, repurposed shutters make for a really airy, open feel as a shabby chic headboard. There are different sizes, so depending on what you can find, they offer themselves to some creative layout options. And again, once you decide on a layout, some paint or wood finish is all it takes to end up with a really beautiful piece of furniture.
5. Window Washing:
Old windows might be my favorite idea for a shabby chic headboard, mainly due to the endless creative ways there are to design this type of headboard! Again, there are so many sizes and shapes of windows, so you can have a lot of fun arranging them. Plus, the glass panes are perfect canvases to paint, if you like!
